Smoked Flavours

Only supplier of liquid smoke to the end consumer in South Africa.

Liquid smoke is an easy healthier way to get a traditional smoky flavour into any meal. Works well on anything from steak to dips.

Made from smoldering damp wood chips to generate as much smoke as possible. This smoke is then funnelled into a condenser where it is cooled and so results in the formation of condensation. This condensation is collected, filtered and purified.
The end product is highly concentrated liquid smoke which has the same flavour of the wood type used, you are then able to achieve the same taste that would be generated by traditional smoking processes.

Ideal for meat, marinades, sauces, cheeses, dips, bastings

Towards the end of 2012, good-food enthusiast Byron Parsons discovered a new recipe for his favourite curry, Chicken Makhani.

One of the key ingredients that leapt off the page and whet his appetite was ‘Liquid Smoke’. Byron searched high and low for the product but none of the local retailers knew anything about it.

What started out as a niggling determination became a mini obsession. Byron eventually tracked down the US manufacturer and soon laid hands on his first bottle of Liquid Smoke.

When his Liquid Smoke-infused Chicken Makhani was finally served, the family loved it – and so did his friends. Byron started using Liquid Smoke to make beef burgers, smoked steak and meatballs.

The versatility of this elusive product, and the positive response from everyone who tried it, got the amateur cook thinking: there was clearly a gap in the market.

Byron started researching his ‘magic ingredient’ in earnest. It contains no PAHs (potentially carcinogenic components), and adds no calories or fat. It works wonders in curries, vegetarian dishes, sauces, marinades or even directly on meat or fish – giving indoor cooking the flavour of outdoor cooking. Plus it’s kosher and halaal. Some flavours are suitable for vegans

In December Byron launched Smoked Flavours and started selling the highly concentrated Liquid Smoke in 50ml and 100ml bottles, in varying strengths and flavours.

A software developer by trade, Byron started creating brand awareness and product demand through the social networks and culinary blogs. He continues to develop a distribution network to supply Liquid Smoke to consumers, delis, butcheries and stores in every corner of the country. The product has featured in the July Ooh! Box, July Edition of SARIE magazine and the Apil Crush Online Magazine.

The Johannesburg-based business is still young, but sales are growing steadily and Byron is determined to create a new South African household brand.
