Return and reuse – a message in a bottle

Did you know plastic takes more than 1 000 years to disintegrate? During this time a number of toxins are released into our air, our water and our food chain. In Cape Town, our waste is dumped into over 252 hectares of landfill – that’s the equivalent of 205 soccer fields. Daily dumps at the landfill can reach 2.5 metres in height and in some cases the landfills are not just holes in the ground - they’re constructions that reach up to 21 stories above ground.

Although recycling is a better option that landfill, glass happens to be one of the most inefficient materials to recycle - only 30% of the energy it takes to make a new bottle is saved in this way.
